Linked to that sense of the word is its use on the canals of Britain, where
a "butty boat" is one (usually a narrowboat) that is towed behind another.
Most usually the butty is an unpowered boat towed behind a powered one, but
the term was in use before the introduction of motors, when two boats towed
by a single horse were described as "buttying".
